PARANG SUMBAWA

Sumbawa

Sumbawa is an island East of Lombok. The people from Sumbawa wear a distinctive short Parang with a finely carved horn hilt in the shape of a Naga head with an upturned snout. The sheath has an upturned knob at its mouth, and its bottom is shaped like a horse shoe . The blade is thick and narrow, it broadens slightly towards the point.

Basic Sumbawa Parang have wooden sheaths, however some higher class weapons have beautiful silver embossed sheaths decorated with foliated scrolls.
