SIKIM PANJANG KLE07

North Sumatra, overall 71.5 cm, blade 54 cm, hilt 15.5 cm -0394E150-

The Sikim Panjang (long) is one of Aceh warriors preferred swords. It was very popular during  the Aceh war in last quarter of the 19th century.

The buffalo horn hilt, hulu tumpang beunteung, is forked in the shape of an open animal mouth. The blade is straight with the back (rueng) and edge (mata) running parallel and a shallow groove (kuro) along 2/3 of the back. The wooden 2 piece scabbard is decorated with poker work arabesques and protrudes at its mouth. It has many similarities with the other Aceh favorite weapon: the Rencong.
