PRE-KERIS JAVANESE DAGGERS

Cambodia or Thailand, 11th Century, Gilt Bronze

The dagger carries an inscription that reads:

"In the year 964 Shaka (AD 1042), the Lon Ayak Canhvar from the sanctuary dedicated to the Sovereign of the Universe of Treh made this offering."

This type of leaf shaped blade dagger is commonly seen on Javan sculptures and bas-reliefs from the 9th to 13th century before the appearance of the Keris.
